So you are thinking about going to the mountains. That is a great idea. I went to the hills recently and I have so much to tell you. Everyone talks about going to Himachal but choosing the right place is hard. I think you should go to Manali at least once in your life. It is not just a hill station it is a feeling. I remember when I first thought about this trip I was confused. But now that I have been there I can help you plan.

This is my simple guide for you. I am not a travel agent. I am just a person who loves to travel and eat maggi in the cold. So read this if you want to know the real stuff about Manali tourism and what happens when you go there.
Why You Should Choose Manali
There are many places in India. But Manali has something special. It is a mix of everything. You have the quiet old villages and you have the busy mall road. You have snow and you have green trees. When I arrived there the first thing I noticed was the air. The air is so fresh. It feels different from the city.

The tourism here is very developed. This means you will not have trouble finding food or hotels. Manali tourism is good for families and also for friends. Even if you come alone you will feel good. The locals are very nice people. They smile a lot. It makes you feel welcome.
How to Plan Your Trip from Delhi to Manali
Okay so getting there is the big part. Most people start from Delhi. The journey from Delhi to Manali is long. It takes about twelve to fourteen hours. Yes that is a lot of time. But the bus ride is part of the fun. I took a Volvo bus. You should also take a Volvo. The ordinary buses are not very comfortable for such a long ride.

You usually board the bus in the evening. The bus starts from Majnu ka Tila or ISBT in Delhi. When the bus starts you just sleep. But when you wake up in the morning the view is changed. You see rivers and big mountains. The road from Delhi to Manali is very curvy. If you get motion sickness like me you should keep some medicine. The bus will stop for dinner and tea. Those stops are nice. You get to stretch your legs.
The bus drops you at the private bus stand or the main bus stand. From there you can take an auto to your hotel. Be careful with the auto drivers. They might ask for too much money. You should bargain a little bit. It is normal there.
Understanding the Manali Weather
The weather is the main thing you need to check. Manali weather changes very fast. One moment it is sunny and the next moment it is cloudy.
If you like snow you should go in winter. Winter is from December to February. It gets very cold. The temperature goes below zero. You need heavy jackets. But the view of snow is worth it. Everything looks white and magical.

If you do not like too much cold then go in summer. Summer is from April to June. The Manali weather in summer is pleasant. It is not hot like Delhi. You can wear a light sweater or even a t-shirt during the day. This is the best time for Manali tourism if you want to do trekking or paragliding.
Monsoon is tricky. That is July and August. It rains a lot. The roads can be blocked. I would say avoid monsoon if you can. It is a bit risky. But if you like rain and lush green views then maybe you can go. Just check the forecast before you leave.
Where You Should Stay
Finding a hotel is easy. But choosing the location is important. Manali is divided into two main parts. There is New Manali and there is Old Manali.

New Manali is near the Mall Road. It is very crowded. There are many shops and hotels. If you are with family maybe this is better. You are close to the bus stand. You can walk to the market easily.
But I prefer Old Manali. Old Manali is a bit further up. You have to cross a bridge over the river. It is very peaceful there. There are many cafes. The vibe is very relaxed. You see many backpackers there. The hotels in Old Manali are also cheaper sometimes. You can find hostels too. If you want to party or sit in a cafe with a book then stay in Old Manali.
The Famous Solang Valley
You cannot visit this place and miss Solang Valley. It is very famous. It is about thirty minutes or one hour from the main town. It depends on the traffic.

Solang Valley is the place for adventure. In winter it is covered in snow. People go there for skiing. You can rent shoes and clothes there. You do not need to buy them. There are many people who will offer to guide you. You can say no if you want to do it yourself.
In summer Solang Valley is green. You can do paragliding. It is scary but fun. You run off a cliff and then you are flying. The view from the top is amazing. You can see the whole valley. There are also ATVs. Those are big bikes with four wheels. You can ride them in the mud. It is very exciting.
There is also a ropeway. It takes you to the top of the mountain. You should take a ride on that. The ticket is not too expensive. When you go up the view is even better. You can see big peaks covered in snow.
Food You Must Try
I love food. And the food in Manali is very tasty. You get everything here. You get North Indian food like dal makhani and naan. You get Chinese food. You get Tibetan food too.

You must try the trout fish. It is a river fish. They cook it with light spices. It tastes very fresh. You should also try momos. The momos here are different from the city. The chutney is very spicy.
If you are in Old Manali go to the cafes. They serve burgers and pizzas. They also have good coffee. Sitting by the river and drinking coffee is a great feeling. There is a dish called Siddu. It is a local bread. It is steamed and has stuffing inside. You eat it with ghee. It is very heavy but very tasty. You have to try it.
Packing for the Trip
Packing is stressful. I always forget something. But for Manali you need to be smart. Do not pack too many clothes. You will not wear them.
Bring comfortable shoes. You will walk a lot. Do not bring heels. They are useless on the hilly roads. Bring a good jacket. Even in summer the nights can be chilly. If you are going in winter bring thermals. They keep you warm from inside.

Bring a power bank for your phone. You will take many photos. Your battery will die fast. Also bring some cash. Some small shops do not take cards.
Exploring the Mall Road
The Mall Road is the heart of the town. No vehicles are allowed there. You have to walk. It is always busy. In the evening it looks very beautiful with lights.
There are many shops. You can buy woollen clothes. You can buy shawls. There are also wooden items. They make good souvenirs. Manali tourism relies a lot on these local markets. You can buy gifts for your friends here.

There is a temple near the Mall Road. It is the Hadimba Temple. It is very old. It is made of wood. It is inside a forest. The trees are very tall. It is very quiet there. You will feel peace. You can walk from the Mall Road to the temple. It is a nice walk.
Other Places Nearby
If you have time you can go to other places too. There is Vashisht village. It has hot water springs. You can take a bath there. The water is natural and hot. It is good for your skin.
There is also the Atal Tunnel. It is new. It is a very long tunnel. It connects Manali to Lahaul. You drive through the mountain. On the other side the landscape is completely different. It is like a cold desert. There are big mountains and less trees. You can go there for a day trip.
Budget for the Trip
Money is important. You want to know how much it costs. A trip to Manali can be cheap or expensive. It depends on you.
If you go by Volvo bus it costs around 1000 to 1500 rupees one way. Hotels can be 1000 rupees or 5000 rupees. Food is not very costly. If you eat in small dhabas it is cheap. If you eat in fancy cafes it is more.
Activities in Solang Valley cost money. Paragliding is around 2000 to 3000 rupees. Skiing is cheaper. You should keep some extra money for these things.
Safety Tips
The place is safe. But you should be careful. Do not walk alone very late at night in dark places. The roads are narrow. Be careful when you walk. Cars drive fast.
If you rent a bike wear a helmet. The police are strict. Also do not drink and drive. The mountain roads are dangerous.
Respect the locals. Do not throw trash anywhere. Keep the mountains clean. Manali tourism is growing but we have to protect nature.
My Personal Experience
When I went there I forgot my charger. It was a panic. But I found a shop easily. That is the good thing. You get everything there.
One day I just sat by the Beas river. The sound of the water was so loud. It was scary but soothing. I sat there for hours. I did not look at my phone. I just looked at the water and the stones. That was the best part of my trip.
I also made a friend on the bus. We talked the whole way from Delhi to Manali. Travelling makes you meet new people. That is why I love it.
A Few Mistakes to Avoid
Don’t try to see everything in two days. You will get tired. Just pick a few places and enjoy. Don’t eat too much before the bus ride. You might vomit. Don’t wear slippery shoes. You might fall.
And don’t trust the weather apps blindly. Manali weather has its own mind. Just be prepared for rain or sun.
Conclusion
So that is my guide. I hope it helps you. Manali is a beautiful place. You will love it. The mountains are calling you. Just pack your bags and go. Do not overthink it.
The journey might be tiring but when you reach there you will forget everything. The fresh air and the hot tea will fix you. Go to Solang Valley and scream from the top of the mountain. Eat the maggi. Buy the shawl. Take photos.
Travel is about making memories. And this place gives you the best memories. Have a safe trip. Enjoy every moment.
